A beginners guide to playing disc golf.

Playing disc golf involves throwing a flying disc from a teeing area to a target basket in as few throws as possible, much like traditional golf. Here's a step-by-step guide to playing disc golf:

    1. Understand the Basics:

      • Disc golf typically consists of 9 or 18 holes.
      • Each hole has a designated tee-off area and a target basket.
    2. Start at the Tee Pad:

      • Begin each hole from the designated tee pad.
    3. Choose Your Disc:

      • Select the appropriate disc for the type of throw and distance needed. Use a driver for long-distance shots, a mid-range for moderate distances, and a putter for short-range shots.
    4. Throw from the Tee:

      • Stand behind the tee pad and throw the disc toward the target basket. The objective is to complete the hole in as few throws as possible.
    5. Subsequent Throws:

      • After the first throw, continue throwing from where your disc landed until it comes to rest in the target basket.
    6. Count Your Throws:

      • Keep track of the number of throws (strokes) it takes to complete each hole. The goal is to finish the entire course in as few total strokes as possible.
    7. Putting:

      • The last throws to complete a hole are usually short-range putts. Accuracy is crucial when putting, as missing the basket can result in additional strokes.
    8. Observe Etiquette:

      • Allow players in front of you to finish the hole before you start. Respect other players' turns.
      • Be mindful of noise and distractions, and maintain a reasonable pace of play.
    9. Marking Your Lie:

      • When your disc comes to rest, mark the spot with a mini marker disc or by placing your disc upside down. This is where you'll throw your next shot.
    10. Penalties:

      • Understand and follow the rules, including penalties for out-of-bounds throws or rule violations.
    11. Complete the Course:

      • Play through all the holes on the course, aiming to complete each one with the fewest possible throws.
    12. Enjoy the Game:

      • Disc golf is meant to be enjoyable. Have fun, and don't get discouraged if you're just starting.

Disc golf is a great game to get you outside, get some exercise, and meet some fun people. The easiest way to get into the game is to grab a starter set and JUST GO PLAY! Many of the more established players you will meet on the course will be happy to let you pick their brains. Don't worry too much about the rules of the game when you are getting started; that will come with experience.
